Bama Girl performed by Brian Sofer, Sam Holt, CR Gruver, Lee Schwartz; Jeff "Birddog" Lane Recorded Live FEB 2, 2005 Buffalo Rose - Golden, CO
She grabbed my hand, and away we ran
through those crowded hotel stairs
Around the bend, and up again
Five years ago seems like yesterday
Not a day passes by
When I don’t ask myself why
But I never did forget
‘Bout the sweetest ‘Bama girl
She showed me in, fixed me a gin
That’s Southern hospitality, you know
A crazy night, a room packed tight
But my ‘bama girl was all I saw
Not a day passes by
When I don’t ask myself why
But I never did forget
‘Bout the sweetest ‘Bama girl
If I could do it all over again
I’d stay with you for a while
Findin’ out just what could’ve been,
May be worth another try
The next day at four, she’s at my door
The more the merrier I always say
That party raged, and I was saved
With my ‘bama girl right next to me
Not a day passes by
When I don’t ask myself why
But I never did forget
‘Bout the sweetest ‘Bama girl
I woke up twitchin’, she’s in my kitchen
Cookin’ breakfast for us all
She glanced at me, my knees got weak
‘Are cheezy eggs okay with you?’
Not a day passes by
When I don’t ask myself why
But I never did forget
‘Bout the sweetest ‘Bama girl
After the feast, we watched TV
She looked so perfect in my sweats
Our guests came back, she wanted a snack
‘Frosted brown sugar okay with you?’
Not a day passes by
When I don’t ask myself why
But I never did forget
‘Bout the sweetest ‘Bama girl
Another pretty smile, a man actin’ like a child
Is all it takes to screw things up
My bama girl, showed me the world
but I let her slip away
Not a day passes by
When I don’t ask myself why
But I never did forget
‘Bout the sweetest ‘Bama girl
If I could do it all over again
I’d stay with you for a while
Findin’ out just what could’ve been,
May be worth another try
If I could do it all over again
I’d stay with you for a while
Findin’ out just what could’ve been,
May be worth another try

9th Street Matinee
- by admin
Words come slow
Bet her heart knows which way to go
Down the steps and out the door
I’ve only seen her two or three times before
Into the rain, into the fog
She’s always walkin’ her tiny little dog
I took a peek through my shades
Caught her smilin’ before I could turn away
Curtains raised
I got the best seat,
every day
So come on down
see what happens
at the 9th Street Matinee
Sink back in
Wait for the next act to begin
Check around back
Those ants look ready to attack
They invaded my car late last year
Millions and millions of footsteps growing near
Crawlin up my spine
A good dose of Raid and we’ll all be just fine
Curtains raised
I got the best seat,
every day
So come on down
see what happens
at the 9th Street Matinee
The big bad man
Atop our urban pad in the sand
Keeps both eyes out
Lets the pests know they’re not allowed
He took on five at once just for fun
Went real easy on the jokers who didn’t run
Gave them a scare
Knowin him, just doin what he thought was fair
Curtains raised
I got the best seat,
every day
So come on down
see what happens
at the 9th Street Matinee
Curtains raised
I got the best seat,
every day
So come on down
see what happens
at the 9th Street Matinee

Don’t Stop The Train
- by admin
They say that life is short,
Just try to hang on tight
Cherish those little things,
You see each day and every night
Think about what you have,
And what you have to lose
So love what you got,
Otherwise fate’ll choose
Keep on rolling along
Rumbling right through the clouds
Picking up steam every day…
Don’t stop the train
And on the way,
You’ll hit so many curves
But that’s just nature’s style,
the universal swerve
Take what you need,
And strap in for the ride
Because the only sure thing,
Is the element of surprise
Keep on rolling along
Rumbling right through the clouds
Picking up steam every day…
Don’t stop the train
And if the good die young,
What happens to the bad?
It’s like a joke at our expense,
It can take everything you had
So when your body’s feelin’ down,
Hand your soul the reins
But you can’t stop life,
Don’t try to stop the train
Keep on rolling along
Rumbling right through the clouds
Picking up steam every day…
Don’t stop the train

Dreamtake

Every night when I turn out the light
I find some time to unwind, clear my mind
Gonna take all that noise, bag it up, gonna leave it all behind
Roamin’ through from a different point of view
Feelin’ free, I can see, from those green leafy trees
Steppin’ soft on the clouds, jumpin in, yeah my favorite place to be
But I knew right away from the first step, I took into the other side
My mind, my time gonna fly by
Keep on walkin down the line
Thunder sounds as the rainbows hit the ground
A brilliant storm, starts to form and the headless buggies swarm
Soakin up all these colors sure do keep my thoughts so nice and warm
But I knew right away from the first step, I took into the other side
My mind, my time gonna fly by
Keep on walkin down the line
Along the way, my focus goes astray
Beeps ring out, buzzers shout, digi-numbers float about
Tearin’ down the walls of dreams, hit your snoozebar right now
But I knew right away from the first step, I took into the other side
My mind, my time gonna fly by
Keep on walkin down the line

Fuzzy Ray

Fuzzy Ray performed by Breaking & Entering
Stranded in a truckers joint oustside of Denver
Slowly killin’ time
A white haired, grizzly man he walked right through the doorway
Then set his sights on mine
He stepped up to the bar
He smashed his money down
I’ll take one beer, one scotch, one whiskey, whiskey sour,
And a rib-eye well-done burnt
And his eyes
Were as black
As a cold desert night
Yeah those eyes
Were as dark
As the midnight sky
He turned to me said ‘pleased to meet you my friend,
They call me Fuzzy Ray’
Best be ready for some drinkin’ my friend
I got my pink slip today
He lit a cigarette
And he downed another shot
I’ve had my fill, I’m sick and tired of smoke and mirrors
They can all do it on their own
All the lies
That I told
are what most folks believe
Yeah those lies
That I sold
Are now troublin’ me
Remember what they said about those shark attacks
kuwait babes and killer bees
Don’t forget about asbestos in your schools
And those pesky Iraqis
One more superstar in cuffs
Yet another white-trash-tryst
I’ve been around, I’ve seen it all, one thing’s for certain
Ignorance loves company
And in time
They’ll all awake
From their snow-filtered dream
Yeah in time
they’ll be no need
To scrub those minds clean
And in time
They’ll all awake
From their snow-filtered dream
Yeah in time
they’ll be no need
To scrub those minds clean

Man Behind The Machine
- by admin
Sun goes down,
that’s when his workday begins
Neon Eyes,
light his path into the nighttime
Who will he be,
perpetual anonymity
Sleep deprived,
every twitch starts another ride
See the man behind the machine
See the man behind the machine
Brick by brick,
one more synapse fires
Travelers arrive,
their quest is shadowed on the flipside
An endless dream,
unfolding destiny
Etched in time,
he’ll let the voices decide
See the man behind the machine
See the man behind the machine
See the man behind the machine
See the man behind the machine
At every turn,
another door swings open
So get in line,
to walk the footprints of his mind
As dawn breaks,
a different chapter closes
With weary eyes,
he slips away beneath the sunrise
See the man behind the machine
See the man behind the machine
See the man behind the machine
See the man behind the machine

Miss Suzy Mae

Time to pay ya’ll a visit once again
To see how much trouble have my kids gotten in
Seems I’m back here every 20 years or so,
To teach you boys what you already should have known
It’s alright now
I ain’t going nowhere
I’m never far away
When you need me, call my name
Miss Suzy Mae
How many times must all you silly folks be told
You can’t keep diggin’ yourselves out of these old wholes
Sooner or later Fuzzy’s men will come for you,
But I forgave them because they know not what they do
It’s alright now
I ain’t going nowhere
I’m never far away
When you need me, call my name
Miss Suzy Mae
Miss Suzy Mae
Miss Suzy Mae
Miss Suzy Mae
Just call my name
Miss Suzy Mae
Just call my name
Miss Suzy Mae
And all the children they must really be confused
So hard to tell these days who’ll win and who will lose
Perhaps it’s best if we just kept them in the dark
I’ll hide your slip-ups while they’re playin the park
It’s alright now
I ain’t going nowhere
I’m never far away
When you need me, call my name
Miss Suzy Mae
Time to pay ya’ll a visit once again
How much trouble have my kids gotten in
Seems I’m back here every 20 years or so,
To teach you boys what you already should have known
It’s alright now
I ain’t going nowhere
I’m never far away
When you need me, call my name
Miss Suzy Mae
Miss Suzy Mae
Miss Suzy Mae
Miss Suzy Mae
Just call my name
Miss Suzy Mae
Just call my name

Old Brickhead Pete
- by admin
Old Brickhead Pete
Wakes from his rusty bed of nails
Scours this concrete playground
Carries a crowbar in his hand
Old Brickhead Pete
Crushes the feeble with one swat
Leavin’ a trail of destruction
Coughs black smoke into the wind
Don’t get on his bad side
You’ll be nothing but a stain
Try to stay on his good side
Keep him outta your brain
Old Brickhead Pete
Hacks up another wretched disease
While beads of his acid sweat
Fill the wells and soak the ground
Don’t get on his bad side
You’ll be nothing but a stain
Try to stay on his good side
Keep him outta your brain
Old Brickhead Pete
Spits his venom with a sneer
Earns his keep from the shadows
A bastard child of the revolution
Don’t get on his bad side
You’ll be nothing but a stain
Try to stay on his good side
Keep him outta your brain

Runnin’ Towards The Light
- by admin
She showed up right on time,
with that look in her eye
Nothin’ stood in her way,
from livin’ life every day
She kept on runnnin’
Towards the light
Standin’ small but full of might
to give the suits a nasty fight
Ragin’ spirit can’t back down
so nice to know, he’s still around
He kept on runnin’
Towards the light
He kept on runnin’
Towards the light
Chargin’ in from far and wide
it’s not enough to make them cry
Linin’ up against the beast
peel back the mask of the machine
They kept on runnin’
Towards the light
They kept on runnin’
Towards the light
Doin’ our best to be free
when all we know is what we see
Answers drift into the sky
and someday soon we’ll all learn why
We keep on runnin’
Towards the light
We keep on runnin’
Towards the light
Keep on runnin’
Towards the light
Keep on runnin’
Towards the light

Smiles Of The Child
- by admin
Sun came out
He ran to her house
And she opened the door
So they could play some more
Every single day
They found a brand new way
to climb that same old slide
for the very first time
Thank you she said
Thank you kindly she said
I want to thank you she said
For the smiles of the child
School began
They walked hand in hand
On the neat new floor
Ready to explore
Big eyes open wide
Growin side by side
Wondering what is true
And why the sky is blue
Thank you she said
Thank you kindly she said
I want to thank you she said
For the smiles of the child
Some day we’ll find our way on back
Some day we’ll find our way on back
Some day we’ll find our way on back
Some day we’ll find our way on back, and remember
Summer soon returned
And how much they learned
But like yesterday
They went back out to play
When the sun went down
they had both left town
Gone their separate ways
With smiles on their faces
Thank you kindly she said
I want to thank you she said
For the smiles of the child
Thank you she said
Thank you kindly she said
I want to thank you she said
For the smiles of the child
